The consultancy is at present working on a report on the large and, in places, well-stratified collection of medieval and later pottery from Launceston Castle, Cornwall, for inclusion in a forthcoming report by Andrew Saunders to be published by English Heritage.
The majority of the analytical work is being undertaken by Duncan Brown and Robert Thompson at Southampton with Alan Vince contributing sections on the late 11th and early 12th-century wares and writing the majority of the report.
A report on the Roman and later pottery from York Minster Library is scheduled for Summer 1999. The Roman pottery, which includes a large assemblage of late 1st-century pottery, will be identified and recorded by Barbara Precious and the medieval and later pottery by Jane Young and Alan Vince, who will co-ordinate the work and be responsible for its presentation to the client (Field Archaeology Services).
Alan Vince is contributing to two major reports on East Midlands pottery.
The first is the report on the Anglo-Saxon and later pottery from Flixborough, for Humber Archaeology Partnership. Jane Young, Paul Blinkhorn and Michael Hughes are undertaking most of the analysis.
The second is a monograph on the Anglo-Saxon, Medieval and later pottery from the City of Lincoln for the City of Lincoln Archaeology Unit. Most of this report has been written by Jane Young with contributions from Alan Vince on the ceramic petrology (over 600 thin-sections were made, covering the Anglo-Saxon to late medieval wares) and imported wares.
These current projects show the variety of ways in which the consultancy can help to publish Roman, Anglo-Saxon, medieval and later ceramics. They range from a complete package covering recording, analysis and illustration, through to different forms of collaboration with other researchers.
